Many a time, after the ad ware program is removed, it may well start
again. This is on account of the program creator which may have a
latent process configured and running, so as to first download and
then install the ad ware program again. If this is happening:
it is far better to make use of a personal firewall so
as to identify ad ware processes over a period of several weeks,
and then remove them. Some reliable personal firewalls like Zone
Alarm are written specifically for allowing access to the Internet;
by identifying and determining the type of program that is trying
to access the Internet.
What you should now do is configure the zone alarm to notify
or intimate you, and get your permission, whenever any program is
trying to access the Internet. Now, with the help of zone alarm
you can therefore locate the processes that are trying to access
the Internet, and identify them by looking them up on Go ogle or
at Task List Processes.
f you cannot identify a process, first kill it, then make
a note of it, locate it on your hard drive and rename it. That way,
you can always restore it, if you decide at a later date that you
need it. Once you have made a decision that you do not need it,
you can search your registry, and delete the keys that make a reference
to it (please back up your registry first), and then remove it from
your hard drive. As these are technical procedures, you may need
to seek professional help, if you are not entirely comfortable doing
it. It would be advisable to keep the personal firewall active for
the next two weeks at least, to be able to “capture”
any processes that could re-activate some more ad ware programs
later.
Precautions to Prevent Ad ware From Downloading
The best protection is always prevention. Fortunately, preventing
ad ware is simple and cost effective. Here a few steps:
First ensure that your system cannot install programs automatically
on the Internet, nor automatically launch them via email. To achieve
this, follow the steps outlined in Securing Internet Explorer, and
in the Email Help Center.
Then ensure that your whole operating system is totally
patched and protected against any known security vulnerabilities.
You could visit the Windows Update site to install any patches that
are marked “Critical.”
Make sure a prompt appears on your screen anytime an application
tries to install itself - especially now that you have taken all
these steps to ensure that your system does not automatically download
any ad ware. Do not click “OK” or “Yes”
to anything unless you fully understand the program’s implications.
If you have on the other hand, deliberately downloaded an
application, ensure that you read and fully understand the End User
License Agreement, before you install the same.
Therefore we note that while some companies would go to any length
to make sure that their ad ware cannot be removed, we do have several
ad ware removal procedures, ad ware spy ware download deterrents,
free ad ware removers and ad ware removal software, and ad ware
blockers to stop ad ware and halt ad ware free download. If these
are put in place in a timely manner, then Internet users the world
over would be doing themselves a great service.
