Phishing Scams
Phishing is a type of deception designed to steal your valuable personal data, like passwords, account data , credit card numbers or other information. Phishing e-mail messages include official-looking logos from real organizations and other identifying information taken directly from legitimate Web sites
APWG, the Anti-phishing Working Group, provides consumer advice on the different ways phishing scams can be avoided.
They recommend the following:
Look at any email that urgently asks you to dispense information on your personal finances with suspicion
Be suspicious of any email with urgent requests for personal financial information
If you get an email with links in them don't use it to visit the relevant web page, if you feel that there's something fishy about the message. You would be better of contacting the company by telephone or making a direct visit to the website by keying in the web address
Avoid filling out forms in email messages that ask for personal financial information
Make double sure that the website you are utilizing is hundred percent secure when you are required to give out info on your credit card or other compromising info through the internet
Consistently log into your accounts that are on the net and check your bank, credit and debit card statements to verify that there have been no fraudulent transactions.
Make sure that the browser you are using is recent and updated and apply security checks where required
Try to install a web browser tool. It will ensure your safety and give you protection against disreputable websites that indulge in phishing
